Mothers' Union is a global Christian organisation with more than 4 million members worldwide, running local projects, supporting international campaigns, and fundraising in areas such as parental rights, international debt relief and child poverty.
Global Village Fair is Mothers' Union's year-round ethical gifts project offering a range of gifts for any occasion. Building on the growing success of their Mother's Day ethical gifts website, the Global Village Fair offers a similar concept but the gifts are available to buy online all year round rather than for a specific event like Mother's Day.
The site allows users to add their chosen gifts to a shopping basket and complete their purchases online. The gifts people buy are virtual gifts. For example, the £7.50 'Honey I'm Home' gift allows Mothers' Union to train people in the developing world with useful skills such as bee keeping.
Mothers' Union send a card to the buyer for each gift that has been purchased, detailing that particular gift and what it means, complete with an envelope ready to be personalised and sent on to the intended recipient. It's effectively a charity donation, pledged by you, in someone else's name or memory. During the checkout stage the user is also given the option to add an additional cash donation to their shopping basket if they wish, and to declare UK Gift Aid if a UK tax payer.
When ready to place an order the visitor can pay via credit card, debit card, using a secure online checkout. Every transaction is handled by our preferred payment processing company, SecureTrading. We have a relationship with SecureTrading that allows us to access preferential commission rates that are not publicly available, so we can pass those savings directly on to our clients.
The site was designed to be extremely easy to use and purposefully offered a fun and friendly approach to what is a serious subject matter. Mothers' Union are very pleased with the finished site. It gives people the opportunity to buy a great gift idea all year round, raising much needed funds whilst also allowing people to support the charity and its work around the world in a few easy steps.
