Merchandising Units

There are many applications for which 3D models are ideally suited. One of the most useful is for transforming flat 2D plans into fully interactive 3D models. This helps bring designs to life and also allows them to be more easily interpreted.

The example we are showing here is a point-of-sale merchandising unit specially designed for placement in an airport duty-free outlet.

Whilst the 2D illustration provides the perfect method of submitting the design to the people who actually build the unit it does not easily allow the people who approve the designs of these units to fully interpret and appreciate some of the design features. This is where 3D models can be extremely useful.

The first image (1) shown to the left shows the contrast between the original flat 2D illustrated plan (viewed from the front) and our equivalent 3D model of the unit.

Other 3D Model Examples

By creating a three dimensional version of the plan we can now view the unit from any angle and zoom in to show some of the finer design details. We can also animate it, superimpose it in any location and even create a user controlled version of it that allows the user to grab hold of it and spin it around to any viewpoint they desire.

All of this is ideal for reviewing and approving the design of such units before commissioning the final build. Once we have completed the model there are various ways we can present the finished design to the client. These including flash-based presentations over the web, CD/DVD based animations and printed media.

The main example used on this page is just one of many units we have been asked to remodel into 3D by our clients. In addition to these point of sale merchandising units and display gondolas we have also created a whole range of other 3D models for our clients, including logos, products, packaging, and other random objects such as bicycles, golf balls, halloween pumpkins and even the odd rocket ship or two!
